Let’s face it; territory planning is probably not going to be an issue for most health club marketers. But if you take this concept and put a spin on it, by thinking of each task of health club marketing and distributing them among the health club’s staff, you can start to see the potential of your health club marketing efforts becoming more effective in your health club marketing and health club professional sales career. Let me show you how.

You can take this concept of territorial planning and apply it to your everyday business activities. Territory planning is basically when companies have different sales people and cut out a territory for each sales person. But if you are a creative thinker, you can utilize the same concept and twist it to make it applicable to your health club.

There are several different aspects of health club marketing and health club professional sales when it comes to acquiring new members. One of them is prospecting. One of the things you can do is you can take your staff and divide them by giving each one of the staff members a specific area to concentrate on in acquiring new members.

For example, let’s say you only have a staff of three people. You can take one of the staff and have him/her call all of the businesses in your area this month. You can procure a business list online or from your local Chamber of Commerce or even the yellow pages. Make a simple script for him/her just introducing the health club and finding out who is the person in charge of human resources, the president/CEO or the general manager. If the key person is reachable, have him/her call them up and introduce the health club and say he/she would like to send them some free information on health and fitness or anything to get the door open. Just be creative and make sure it is something that the customer wants. Then your staff follows up with an email, making sure they received it. You can also invite them out for a tournament or some type of social function.

While someone of your staff is doing that, the next person will be responsible for calling all of the organizations within your area by putting together the same type of package and so on. If you are a personal trainer, maybe you are in-charge of putting together a health club marketing campaign for the website, the newspaper, etc., because it would be easy for you to put together a blog on training sessions or anything educational for health and fitness community.
