1) Increase traffic, i.e., new prospects;
2) Get your health club members to spend more per visit;
3) Raise health club membership rates;
Do one of the three, you can grow steady;
Do two of the three, you can grow rapidly;
Do all three, and you “will” grow faster than a speeding bullet.
Health club marketing is about doing a little every day, i.e., being consistent. Focus on programs designed for one of the first two tasks every other week (I do not recommend raising prices or rates in this economy unless you have a surplus of health club members) and do something to improve/increase that area of marketing for your health club.
Example: The first week of the month, design a health club marketing campaign to attract new health club members like a free training session for health club members and their guests, but only for those members who bring in a guest. Always think about getting the biggest bang for your buck, so if you are going to roll out a health club marketing campaign do it with gusto.
The following week, work on a campaign to raise awareness and revenue for your profit centers. One example could be a punch card for tanning sessions; buy 4 and get your 5th tanning session free. These are what MMC® refers to as “mini-campaigns”. They don’t shake the ground but every little bit helps.
If you just do this every other week at the end of the year you will have launched 24 fresh new health club marketing campaigns to increase traffic and therefore health club revenue. Think of it like tiny drops of water going into a glass; eventually, the glass will fill up ad even overflow.
